Atlantic weather returns to north-west Europe tonight after a calm Saturday start

Much of western Europe is enjoying a relatively quiet Saturday afternoon, but the next Atlantic change is already moving in. Rain and stronger winds are affecting western parts of Britain, while northern Germany turns windier towards the evening.

This is a more specific follow-up to Saturday morning’s broader European outlook.

Rain spreads across Wales

The UK Met Office expects a band of cloud and rain to move south across Wales during Saturday, with some heavier bursts possible and rather windy conditions. This marks a clear return of Atlantic influence to the western side of north-west Europe.

Northern Germany turns windier

Germany’s national weather service expects an Atlantic trough to approach from the north-west by Saturday evening. Along the coast and on the islands, south-westerly gusts around 55 km/h are possible, with isolated stronger gusts up to around 70 km/h in exposed locations considered a low-probability risk.

France remains largely under high pressure for now, while southern Italy is still dealing with residual instability and official yellow alerts in Calabria and parts of Basilicata, Puglia and Sicily.

The key weather story is therefore not a continent-wide storm, but a regional shift in the north-west as Atlantic weather becomes more active again.
