Europe from noon: Atlantic fronts cross Germany while heat builds farther southwest

Europe remains split between several weather regimes from Sunday noon through Monday evening. Atlantic troughs are crossing parts of Germany and north-central Europe, while high pressure keeps France and much of southwestern Europe sunnier and increasingly warm.

The Alpine region sits between these two patterns. Switzerland stays relatively mild and mostly dry, while Austria sees more regional variation, with longer sunny spells in the west and a greater chance of cloud or a few showers farther east and along parts of the northern Alps.

Germany remains the more unsettled part of central Europe

Through Sunday afternoon, a band of cloud and rain continues moving southeast across Germany. Conditions improve behind it in the northwest, while southern areas remain wetter for longer.

Near the Chiemgau and Berchtesgaden Alps, locally persistent rain is possible from Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. Farther north and west, Monday becomes noticeably drier as temporary high pressure rebuilds.

France turns warmer

France is moving in the opposite direction. Sunshine dominates across much of the country, with temperatures around or above 30 degrees Celsius in the southwest and near the Mediterranean on Sunday.

On Monday the warmth expands farther north. Temperatures close to 30 degrees are possible across a much larger area, with the hottest conditions in the south. Northern coastal areas remain less warm and somewhat cloudier.

Italy is calmer, but the far south still has some instability

Most of northern and central Italy stays dry and bright on Sunday. The main exception is the far south, especially southern Calabria and eastern Sicily, where isolated showers or thunderstorms remain possible.

By Monday, northwesterly flow starts to bring somewhat cooler air into northern and central Italy. The overall pattern remains mostly settled, although the northeast and southern Sicily may see more cloud and a few local showers.

The Alps stay mostly mild

Switzerland and western Austria remain relatively mild through Monday, with many dry hours and periods of sunshine. Eastern Austria and the northern Alpine rim have a somewhat greater chance of cloud and local showers, particularly overnight and early Monday.

Europe’s main weather contrast through Monday evening

The broad picture is therefore clear: warmer and sunnier conditions dominate southwestern Europe, Atlantic influence remains more noticeable across Germany and parts of northern Europe, and the Alpine region experiences a mixed but generally mild transition between the two.
