Europe weather through Saturday evening: Settled in the west and Alps, wetter in the north and central Mediterranean
Europe heads into Saturday with a pronounced split between high-pressure weather across much of western and Alpine Europe and more unsettled zones to the north and around the central Mediterranean.
France and the Alpine region turn quieter
France becomes widely sunny on Saturday, with late-summer warmth returning across much of the country. Switzerland and Austria also see a generally calmer pattern, with many lowland areas dry and bright after local morning fog or cloud.
Northern Germany remains wet and windy
Atlantic influence remains strongest across northern Germany. DWD guidance shows light rain at many northern stations on Saturday, with strong gusts along the North Sea coast and storm-force gusts indicated for exposed islands.
Italy: north-south contrast strengthens
Northern Italy is expected to stay mostly sunny and dry, while instability increases across Sardinia, central Italy and much of the south. Scattered showers and thunderstorms become more likely through Saturday, especially around southern Tyrrhenian and inland areas.
By Saturday evening, the broad European picture is therefore calmer across France and much of the Alps, unsettled in the far north, and increasingly storm-prone across parts of the central and southern Mediterranean.
