Europe’s midday weather map is less about storms and more about contrast. High pressure dominates much of western and central Europe, but temperature differences are striking from the North Sea to the Mediterranean.
Germany: calm and cool
Germany has lost the strong wind that marked Monday. Most lowland areas reach 17 to 20°C this afternoon, with around 22°C in the Upper Rhine region. Mountain summits are much colder, with the Zugspitze near -1°C.
Switzerland: sunshine with a noticeable Bise
North of the Alps, temperatures reach mostly 18 to 22°C. Western Switzerland is around 23°C, while southern Ticino reaches about 25°C. The Bise remains the main weather feature across parts of the Swiss Plateau.
Austria: a north-south divide
Southern and western Austria are sunnier, while the northern Alpine slopes still see local showers. Snow can fall above roughly 1500 to 1800 metres in parts of the northern Alps. Afternoon temperatures range from around 12 to 22°C.
France remains unusually hot
France is the warm outlier. Most regions reach 25 to 30°C, with 31 to 32°C from Aquitaine to Provence and local peaks of 33 to 34°C in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Italy: mostly settled, but storms in the far south
Most of central and northern Italy stays dry, while Calabria, eastern Sicily and Ionian areas face a higher risk of showers and thunderstorms. Sicily locally reaches 28 to 30°C.
By evening, the broad European pattern remains stable: cool and calm in the north and central regions, much warmer farther south-west, with local instability confined mainly to the central Mediterranean.
