One continent, two seasons: calm autumn in the north, summer heat lingering in the south-west
Tuesday’s European weather is dominated by a broad high-pressure influence stretching across western and central parts of the continent. The pattern creates a striking temperature contrast rather than widespread severe weather.
Germany: a much quieter day
After Monday’s strong coastal winds, Germany turns calmer. Morning temperatures range from about 6°C inland to 14 or 15°C on some North Sea islands. Afternoon highs are mostly 17 to 20°C, locally a little higher in the south-west.
Switzerland: sunshine, Bise and up to 25°C in the south
Swiss lowlands north of the Alps start near 8°C and reach 18 to 22°C. Western Switzerland is around 23°C in the afternoon, while southern Ticino reaches about 25°C. A moderate Bise affects parts of the Swiss Plateau.
Austria: dry Alpine weather
Much of western Austria sees a dry and sunny Tuesday. Alpine valleys often start around 4 to 9°C and rise into the mid to upper teens. Snow levels remain well above normal pass roads.
France: the warm outlier
France remains the warmest major region in western Europe. Météo-France forecasts 25 to 30°C across large areas, 31 to 32°C from Aquitaine to Provence, and locally 33 to 34°C in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Italy: mostly settled, local southern instability
Most of Italy stays dry and mild to warm, but eastern Sicily and parts of Calabria remain exposed to isolated showers or thunderstorms. Northern and Adriatic areas are slightly cooler than on previous days.
