Europe weather today: warm sunshine across the centre and south, rain pushes into the British Isles

Large parts of continental Europe enjoy a settled and warm Sunday under high pressure. Switzerland, Austria, Germany, the Low Countries, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary are mainly dry, with long sunny spells and locally warm late-September temperatures.

Farther west, Atlantic weather is more active. A band of rain moves east across the British Isles, with some areas of Wales and western Britain seeing heavy spells during the day. Northwest France also turns cloudier with a few showers, while most of France remains unusually warm.

Central Europe stays dry and mild

Germany ranges from the upper teens on parts of the Baltic coast to close to 30 °C in the southwest. Austria reaches around 19 to 26 °C after a cold morning, while Switzerland sees widespread mid-20s and locally around 28 °C in favoured lowland areas.

🌍 Europe at a glance

  • Central Europe: mostly dry, sunny and mild to warm.
  • France: very warm inland, locally around 34 °C.
  • British Isles: an eastward-moving band of rain, locally heavy.
  • Italy: mostly sunny; limited cloud or showers in the far south.
  • Greece/western Türkiye: the most unsettled part of the Mediterranean.

Southern Europe: mostly sunny, but not everywhere

Spain and Portugal are largely dry and warm, although northwestern Spain can see a few showers. Italy is mostly sunny with only limited cloud in the far south. Greece and western Türkiye remain more unsettled with showers and locally heavier rain.

Northern and eastern Europe

Scandinavia is mostly dry but breezy in places. The Baltic region is largely sunny, while a few showers remain possible over eastern Ukraine. Conditions vary sharply across the continent, so local forecasts remain important for travel.

Through the evening the main Atlantic rain area continues to affect the British Isles, while much of central Europe stays dry and calm.
