Central Europe calms this evening – Sunday stays cool with lingering Alpine and German showers

Saturday evening is markedly calmer across much of western and central Europe. Live Toni weather snapshots at 19:00 show calm conditions dominating most locations in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and France. The remaining unsettled pockets are concentrated in parts of southern Germany, the northern Alps and southern Italy.

Saturday evening: the main rain band is weakening

Switzerland is mostly calming down, although rain is still present around Zurich and a few northern areas. Germany is also quieter overall, but Munich remains wet and rain is expected to return later in Berlin and Hamburg. Austria has a mixed evening with rain still present in some regions, but the later signal is calm across all displayed lowland locations.

Italy is improving quickly: Rome and Milan are calm around 18°C, while Naples still has rain near 19°C. France is already widely calm, with Paris around 16°C, Lyon 17°C and Bordeaux 18°C. High mountain areas across the Alps remain cold and locally windy or snowy.

Sunday: cooler, brighter in the west, still changeable in the east

Sunday is cooler across central Europe. Germany stays cloudy with rain or showers most likely in northern, northeastern and some central areas. Western and southwestern Germany have the better chances of longer dry spells, with afternoon highs mostly around 12 to 16°C.

Switzerland improves during the day, especially in the west, inner Alpine valleys and south of the main Alpine ridge. Residual showers remain possible along the northern Alps in the morning, where the snow level may temporarily fall to around 1800 to 2000 metres.

Austria remains changeable in parts of the Alps, with the snow level regionally around 1600 to 2200 metres and the east staying milder. France is generally calmer and often dry, but cloud increases in the west and a new disturbance approaches western Brittany late in the day. Italy improves across the north and centre, while isolated showers can persist in parts of the south.

Europe through Sunday evening

  • Saturday evening: a broad calming trend across central Europe after the daytime front.
  • Germany: rain returns locally overnight and Sunday stays mostly cloudy and cool.
  • Switzerland: improving Sunday, but morning showers and snow down to about 1800–2000 m on the northern Alps.
  • Austria: Alpine showers remain possible; snow level regionally around 1600–2200 m.
  • France and northern Italy offer some of the better outdoor windows on Sunday, while southern Italy improves more gradually.

Best weather windows

The best Sunday conditions are expected in western Switzerland, parts of France, northern Italy and eastern Austria. The least favourable mountain conditions remain on the northern and eastern Alps, where low cloud, cold air and fresh snow at higher elevations can quickly make trails feel wintry.
