Europe weather: unsettled in central regions, brighter spells elsewhere through Sunday evening

The weekend weather pattern across Europe is shaped by a more unsettled Atlantic influence pushing into central parts of the continent. As a result, the Alps, parts of Germany, Switzerland and northern Italy face a wetter and cooler spell through Sunday evening.

In the Alpine region, rain becomes frequent and temperatures drop enough for the snow line to lower on the highest terrain. Germany sees a breezy weekend along the coasts, with stronger gusts near the Baltic and North Sea, while the southwest turns wetter with longer-lasting rain.

North and south show different faces

Austria starts the weekend with clouds, local fog and some rain in the west, before conditions improve on Sunday. In Italy, Saturday stays fairly decent for many areas, but Sunday brings a more obvious deterioration to the northwest and parts of the Tyrrhenian side.

France turns cooler after a milder spell, with weak rain crossing from the southwest toward the Alps on Saturday and a fresher feel continuing on Sunday. The UK, by contrast, keeps a lot of dry and bright weather, although some showers affect eastern and southeastern districts.

Outlook to Sunday evening

By Sunday evening, the main story remains the same: a distinctly autumnal, mixed weather pattern across central Europe, with rain, low cloud and local mountain snow, while a few surrounding regions still manage brighter and calmer intervals.
