Europe to Tuesday evening: late-summer warmth holds as Atlantic change approaches

Published:

Much of western and central Europe keeps a late-summer feel through Tuesday evening. France stays notably warm, Germany reaches close to 30°C in the southwest, the Alpine region turns mostly settled, and Italy remains largely dry. A more active Atlantic front approaches from the northwest later.

Monday night is generally quiet across a broad area from France through Switzerland and Austria into northern Italy. Clear spells are widespread, although low cloud, mist or valley fog may form locally overnight.

France remains the hot spot

France keeps the strongest heat signal. Temperatures around 30°C can extend into the northern half of the country on Tuesday, while parts of southern France may still approach 35°C. Rainfall remains limited at national scale, and the dry Mediterranean regions continue to face elevated fire-weather concerns.

Germany warms sharply before the front

Germany also turns very warm. Official DWD forecasts show highs near 29 to 30°C in the southwest, including parts of the Upper Rhine region, while Berlin reaches around 25°C. The immediate North Sea coast stays much cooler, generally close to 20°C.

Cloud increases across northern Germany during the day as a Scandinavian low and its cold front move closer. The more active phase is expected after our forecast window, with the front reaching Germany during the night into Wednesday.

The Alps settle down

Switzerland and Austria both see a relatively quiet Tuesday. Local morning fog is possible in valleys and lowlands, but sunshine becomes widespread later. Lowland temperatures rise into the mid-20s, locally higher. The high mountains remain much cooler, but there is no broad winter-weather issue through Tuesday evening.

Italy mostly stable, with a small southern exception

Across Italy, high pressure keeps most regions dry and bright. Northern and central areas see plenty of sunshine, while isolated showers remain possible around southern Calabria and southern Sicily. These are local features rather than signs of a nationwide breakdown.

By Tuesday evening the main European weather story is therefore still warmth and relative stability. The next change is already visible over the Atlantic and northwestern Europe, but its more substantial effects come later.
