Europe heads into Thursday with a classic early-autumn split: Atlantic weather becomes more active in the northwest, while high pressure still dominates large parts of central and southern Europe.
Northwestern Europe
A low moving from the North Sea toward the Baltic brings stronger winds, cloud and rain to northern Germany and nearby regions. Coastal Germany can see storm-force gusts.
Central Europe
Switzerland and Austria remain much calmer. Overnight temperatures fall into single digits in many valleys, before daytime highs recover to roughly 18 to 22°C.
France
Météo-France expects 26 to 31°C across much of the country, locally 32 to 34°C in Occitanie, Charente and Aquitaine.
Italy
Most of Italy stays settled and mild to warm, generally in the low to upper 20s. Eastern Sicily and Ionian areas remain more variable.
Thursday evening
The northern disturbance gradually weakens over Germany, while the warmer and drier pattern continues farther south and west.
