Europe splits again on Wednesday: cool mornings in central Europe, summer heat still holding in France

Published:

Tuesday evening leaves much of western and central Europe under quiet conditions.

Central Europe

Parts of Bavaria drop to around 0 to 3°C before Germany recovers to mostly 17 to 22°C. Switzerland and Austria start mostly in single digits and rise toward 18 to 23°C.

Alps

High pressure keeps much of the Alpine region dry, with snow levels generally above 3000 metres.

France

20 to 24°C near the Channel, 24 to 29°C across much of the north and centre, and 28 to 32°C in the south.

Italy

Mostly settled, cooler than before, with local showers over Sardinia, Sicily and the far south.

By Wednesday evening, isolated thunderstorms and strong gusts become possible in north-western Germany.
